Yummy Oyster Stew

Jared had a great idea for dinner tonight. He had a "woolee" for Oyster Stew. I found this recipe on Recipezaar and, boy, was it good!! Almost as good as Grandpa Clawson's! I halfed the recipe and it made a nice medium size pot. The oysters we bought were a bit on the large size but they could be cut up if you would prefer. Cook up a batch, it takes about 10 or 15 minutes only, and enjoy some "good groceries"!
Serves 6 - 8
1 quart whole milk
1 quart half-and-half
2 pints oysters (w/liquor, meaning juice or liquid)
1/8 - 1/4 c lightly salted butter
salt and pepper
oyster crackers
3 sprigs parsley (optional) or cayenne pepper (optional)
1. Pour milk and half-and-half together in a 4 Qt. sauce pan.
2. Add butter, salt and pepper to taste.
3. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until steaming and butter is melted. DO NOT ALLOW TO BOIL.
4. Add oysters with liquor and stir for just a few minutes until oysters are cooked. Not too long or they turn rubbery.
5. Serve in traditional large, shallow soup bowls.
6. Add a sprig of parsley and/or Cayenne pepper sprinkled on top, if desired.
Yuuuuuuummmmmmy!!!!

Dallin's Nightmare

The other night Dallin had a bad, bad dream!!! He dreamt that Grandpa opened a Pizza Store and made Dallin drum up business in a pizza costume. Can you just picture it!!!???

Only a kid with an Italian grandpa would even fear such embarrassment!!!

Dallin you are too awesome! We love ya!

Take Me Home, Country Roads

It felt so good to be back "home" in Randolph this past weekend! It had been a long eight weeks since we last spent time in "heaven".
It turned out to be a perfect weekend! The weather was cool and refreshing, Dallin and Mia drove up with us on Friday and spent the day with us. We visited the Country Fair events going on across the street including the 4-H exhibits where the kids got to see cows, hogs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and watched a chicken lay an egg!! (so that's where they come from!!) We spent time at the park, made our usual trip to the "Station" for goodies, did crafts and made pizza.
Katie came up later in the day and we got to play some Bocci (Italian Lawn Bowling). The kids got really good at it! We even went to the Rodeo and saw bucking broncos and bulls. Mia was very curious to know what made them jump and buck so much which led to an interesting discussion!
Here is a picture of a very happy Beth and Frank! We spent time this weekend pondering what makes Randolph so magical for us. We came up with a few reasons: 1) we have day dreamed and mentally escaped to Randolph for more than 10 years and now the dream has come true, 2) the townspeople have welcomed us so warmly, 3) the living is simple and easy and it feels like we step back in time whenever we are there, 4) the air is so clear, clean and fresh, 5) it is so quiet, 6) it has been so rewarding to put some sweat and elbow grease in to turning the old place into a comfortable welcoming abode, 7) we BOTH love it which makes it particularly sweet, and the list could go on and on. We enjoy everything about Randolph and feel incredibly privileged to be a part of that little community.

Frank Says Farewell to the Business College

The college had a small gathering of faculty and staff to say good-bye to Frank as he moves on to a new job with LDS Employment Services. It has been a good 6 years with many fine friends and great experiences. Frank wore a number of hats while there including recruiter, advisor, director of the Academic and Career Advising Center and teacher. He was well loved and will be missed.
Jared and AJ were able to join the festivities and represented the family
well.
The Business College has been a blessing in our lives. Beginning with AJ there have been 5 Sano's to graduate from the B.C. over the course of last 10 years.

Ty is Really Growing

Ty Morgan is getting big! He weighed in at 10 lbs 5 oz at the doctor the other day. He also got his first shots.
He gets more hugs and kisses from his siblings than he knows what to do with! What a cute little man.
Ty's blessing was a couple of weeks ago. He looked so handsome in his little white suit! It was fun to be with the Morgan Clan again.

A "Smokin'" Good Time

Jared put a brisket on the grill to smoke and some of the family were able to come over for a long overdue "Around the Kitchen Table" moment. With Frank feeling better, it was time to get together again. Jared, using Keith's recipe, tended the brisket from about 5 a.m. - 7 p.m. when he served up a fabulous dish. We included all the other fixin's like baked beans, homemade mac and cheese, coleslaw and watermelon. It was wonderful!
Here are a few candid shots of the evening.

Let the sun shine!!

Frank has made some real good improvements in the last day or two and it feels like the sun is going to shine again!!! We had kind of forgotten what "normal" life was like after 30 days of illness and recovery. Yesterday we bid farewell to: the wound vacuum, the hospital bed and the home health care nurse. Today we said hello to: a "real" shower, driving the car, and 1/2 days back at work.
Amongst the long cloudy days of illness have come some very good things. To name a few: terrific children who have helped in so many ways, caring friends and family who called or sent their get well wishes, delicious meals brought in by kind neighbors, tearful and tender sharing of emotions and love, an appreciation for the little things, more fervent prayers, and improved perspectives and priorities.
We are so blessed to have Frank's health returning and to have the sun peek through the clouds!

Sad News....

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.
Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Buttersworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.
Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they have one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
This made me smile. If you are having a crumby day and knead a lift, I hope it will bring a smile to you, too.
