Elder and Sister Sano

We are about one month into our Inner City Project Mission. For 30 + years we have been looking forward to serving a mission together and now the dream has come true.
The LDS Church has many programs that assist those in need all around the world. From disaster relief wherever fires, tsunami, earthquakes, etc. strike, to organizing water projects in drought afflicted Africa, to providing measle shots and infant resuscitation training. The Inner City Project that we are involved in is closer to home and exists to help the poor and needy in our community. Couples, usually middle aged, are asked to commit to one year to working in an inner-city ward or congregation, and under the direction of the bishop, help those in need.
It is a wonderful feeling to be part of an army of other couples united to assist in bringing spiritual and temporal relief that will help to strengthen individuals and our community.
We have been assigned to a downtown ward and attend Church there on Sundays and Family Home Evening on Wednesday nights. We will be assigned a few people to help with their varying needs, from being a friend, to helping them create a budget, to finding the right community resources to fill their needs.
We have met some remarkable people who are trying so hard to reach higher ground. It is a privilege to be of service to them. Though we are there to help them, they are teaching us. We have a renewed appreciation and testimony of how much the Lord loves all of His children and that He uses our hands to answer their prayers.
